Bob Fisher brings over two decades of networking, programming and lobbying experience throughout Nevada and the United States. He was the first full-time, professional — President and CEO, of the Nevada Broadcasters Association. He retired on December 31, 2014, after serving in that position for 22 years.

In his position as CEO, he produced and hosted OBSERVATIONS — in what became the most listened to weekly public affairs radio program aired throughout the State of Nevada. 1,040 in-studio shows were produced and carried on as many as 35 stations. A decade later, a weekly public affairs television program followed, being produced at the KRXI / KAME studio in Reno. Also known as OBSERVATIONS — 550 shows were aired throughout northern and rural Nevada. As many as 5 different networks and 6 stations carried the show.

Today, Bob produces and hosts the only “live”, one hour weekly Diabetes show aired over commercial radio in the United States. News Talk Radio AM 720 KDWN in Las Vegas is the home of AMERICA’S DIABETES HOUR, which airs every Sunday evening from 6 PM – 7 PM, and streamed across America and around the world. Two decades earlier in Las Vegas and Reno, he had produced and hosted the first weekly “live” Diabetes cable television program in the United States. For that work he was honored by both the Nevada Diabetes Association and the American Diabetes Association.

On October 2, 2016, OBSERVATIONS returned to the airwaves. Every Sunday from High Noon ’til 1 PM, VEGAS OBSERVATIONS assembles a panel of political and community leaders. The show is also aired on AM 720 KDWN and streamed around the globe. VEGAS OBSERVATIONS has evolved and expanded it’s scope, from 30 minutes to 60 minutes, from being prerecorded to live cast, and now reaches a national and global audience.

As a lobbyist for the NBA, he brought AMBER Alert into Nevada. He was able to create and unanimously pass comprehensive state legislation. Appointed by Governors Guinn, Gibbons and Sandoval, he served a decade as the State AMBER Alert Chairman and Coordinator. He was honored by United States Attorney General Alberto Gonzales in Washington, D.C. as the first recipient of the National AMBER Alert Media Award. In addition to providing broadcaster immunity, Nevada statute carries the toughest penalty in America for providing false information resulting in an AMBER Alert activation.

Under his leadership, the Nevada Legislature continued to pass historical legislation. We remain the only state in America whose “trained, certified and credentialed broadcast personnel are classified as First Responders.” He was also the driving force to prevent the elimination of Broadcaster Non-Compete contracts in the 2013 Nevada Legislative Session.

A strong advocate for the Nevada Army National Guard, he served on the successful Governor’s Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission. Today, Bob remains the longest serving member of the Nevada Homeland Security Commission. On the commission he has served as chairman of both the Rural Communities and By-laws committees.

In 1996, Bob established the Nevada Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame. In 2011, he also established the Nevada Broadcasters Foundation, and the Tony and Linda Bonnici Scholarship Fund, which continues to provide individual mentoring and station internships for passionate broadcast students attending UNLV and UNR. To date, 82 scholarships have been awarded.

Bob’s prolific and successful not-for-profit fundraising strategies has enabled the Nevada Broadcasters Association to continue to be an industry leader today under the leadership of NVBA President and CEO Mary Beth Sewald; and Eric Bonnici, Foundation Executive Director.

He is a former National President of the Alliance of State Broadcasters Associations (NASBA); and a former Board of Trustee of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce. He has also served on the boards of the Las Vegas Ad Club, Big Brothers and Big Sisters and the American Diabetes Association. Today, he is a proud and active member of the Las Vegas Rotary Club — serving as a Trustee of the LVRC Foundation. Currently, he serves on the UNLV Foundation Presidents Associates Council and the board of directors of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Museum.

He is the founding clergy of Midbar Kodesh Temple in Henderson, Nevada, and served as Cantor of the congregation for twelve years.

Under the umbrella of CONSULTANTS In Action LLC, he has established America’s Diabetes Hour, Vegas Observations and Bob Fisher Weddings. He chairs Government Affairs as a member of the Board of Directors of the Las Vegas Wedding Chamber of Commerce. He is also a member of the Las Vegas Film Critics Society. His weekly digital film review column, “At the Movies” appears exclusively in the “FEATURES” section on News3LV.com.

Bob was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He grew-up, lived and worked in the Twin Cities. Prior to moving to Las Vegas, Los Angeles was his home for 13 years serving as the Director of the Pacific Southwest Region of United Synagogue Youth — overseeing 45 congregations throughout southern California; Southern Nevada; Arizona; Utah; New Mexico and Hawaii.
