OUT OF AFRICA is a 1985 American epic romantic drama film that received seven Academy Awards including Best Picture of the Year. THE LEGEND OF TARZAN is a 2016 American epic romantic drama film that in my opinion (after six months) is the Best Picture of the Year.

Credit director David Yates.

Credit screenwriters Adam Cozad and Craig Brewer based on the Tarzan stories created by Edgr Rice Burroughs.

And give credit to —
Director of photography: Henry Braham
Production designer: Stuart Craig
Costume designer: Ruth Myers
Music: Rupert Gregson-Williams
Visual effects supervisor: Tim Burke
Casting: Lucy Bevan

I rarely list all of the above credits in any of my film reviews. With THE LEGEND OF TARZAN, each category is Oscar worthy. Combined together with 3D IMAX, you will be literally flying in the trees and fighting the Gorillas together with Tarzan.

I also want to honor the memory of the late Jerry Weintraub, who is the top billed producer of this film. He started developing the project in 2003 and went through many scripts, directors and proposed stars. Las Vegas music lovers and fans of the new T-Mobile Arena, may not realize that it was Weintraub who made show business history by being the first promoter to organize and manage large arena tours for singers. Among his clients: Presley, Sinatra, Four Seasons, Diamond, Dylan and Zeppelin.

I encourage you to return to England and the Congo of the 1880’s. This Tarzan and Jane are different than what you have ever seen before. I submit to you that Alexander Skarsgard and Margot Robbie’s performances as Tarzan and Jane provides a subtle, deeply personal and introspective quality. This is a beautiful film.
